NEW SUNSHINE COAST STALLHOLDER PROFILE FOR LLAMA LOUNGE DESIGN

Stalllholder Profile for Llama Lounge Design

Your name: Julie Reibelt

Your business name and facebook/website name and link: Llama Lounge Design

The suburb/town you live in now: Witta, near Maleny, in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?: I use resin and other mediums to create unique and beautiful pieces of art, homewares and jewellery.

What inspired you to start your business? I took a year off from the corporate world and moved back to Queensland after living and working overseas and in WA for the past 15 years. This year is all about trying new things and following my passions. Setting up my own business with Llama Lounge Design has allowed me to do that.

How long have you been creating? I have been creating since I was a child - I had a grandmother who spent a lot of time teaching me how to sew, knit and crochet. This early love of creating things has expanded over the years, and I am now the aunt that does the creative arts and crafts with my niece and nephews. Moving to Maleny and creating Llama Lounge Design has allowed me to fully embrace my artistic side.

Is it a full time/part time hobby or business? A business and a passion.

Where do you sell your creations? I sell online via etsy (https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/LlamaLoungeDesign), at the monthly Witta Markets (3rd Saturday of every month), and at The Handmade Expo.

What makes you so special or different? Resin is a really fun medium to work with, because it is so unpredictable. No two pieces are alike. I love being able to create functional pieces of art that are unique.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do? Seeing people fall in love with the pieces that I create, and then seeing those pieces being used or worn.

What is your favourite product to make? I love making serving trays and stools/side tables - art that is both beautiful and functional, and can be appreciated every day.

Do you teach classes or workshops? Not at this stage, but it is something I am considering in the future.

NEW TOOWOOMBA STALLHOLDER PROFILE FOR HANSON MINERAL PHOTOS

Stallholder Profile for Hanson Mineral Photos

  • Your name: Di Hanson

  • The suburb/town you live in now: My home is in Mt Lofty (Toowoomba), but until I can really get my business established, I am continuing to work at my 'other job' in Brisbane.

  • What is it that you make and what skills do you use? I make custom ceramic feature tiles using photography and original artwork, as well as painting  on canvas, tile and timber.  The skills I have are acrylic painting, design and resin art.

  • What inspired you to start your business? It has been a lengthy evolution from wanting to share my sister Sue's mineral photography in her memory, and doing that via a series of art exhibitions and public art, to wanting to create my own art and doing that via my artwork feature tiles, canvas paintings and serving board art.

  • How long have you been ‘creating’? Not long! I have been working with my sister's beautiful photography for about nine years, but only doing my own artwork for about ten months.

  • Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?  I have established my business Hanson Mineral Photos with the intention of developing this into a viable business, but I am only able to do this part time at the moment.

  • Where do you sell your creations?   I have a shop on Etsy as well as my own website, I've also done one or two markets but not since I have been doing my own artwork.

  • What makes what you do special or different? I  don't think there are many people doing photography on tile and offering to do custom photography or artwork on feature tiles.

  • What is the most rewarding part of what you do?  I love the opportunity to share Sue's photography, that is very special to me. Also I had no idea that painting was so enjoyable and I love the abstract nature of the art I create - no rules!

  • What is your favourite product that you make? At the moment I really love painting the hand-turned camphour laurel cheeseboards, but my heart is with Sue's photos and finding new customers for her art.

  • Do you teach classes or workshops? No! I'm just learning

  • What inspired you to start your business? My son was always too distracted by everything going on around him while breastfeeding & had a habit of pulling on my expensive gold chain, so I decided to create a range of safe, non-toxic necklaces to help him keep focused while feeding. It worked really well & I was soon having requests from friends to make some for them as well, and so Landon Calling was born.

  • How long have you been ‘creating’? The 30th August 2017 marked the two year birthday of Landon Calling.

I design each necklace with modern style & practicality in mind so they remain versatile, & can go from a Sunday BBQ to a wedding with ease.

NEW SUNSHINE COAST STALLHOLDER PROFILE FOR AMAYZ MOSAICS

Stallholder Profile for Amayz Mosaics

I’m Heather May. I am originally from New Zealand but have not lived there for the last twenty-one years, instead have travelled the world, living and teaching in Borneo and The Bahamas for 11 years and now I love to call the Sunshine Coast home.

See some of my work on www.amayzmosaics.com.au  or Amayz Mosaics on Facebook.

I am a Mosaic Artist, having been inspired by travels to Gaudi’s work in Barcelona and the multitude of geometric design seen in nature and many images and artworks from different cultures such as the ancient Turkish mosaics in Sardis. I first began mosaicking when I arrived on the Sunshine Coast and joined a volunteer group of adults to mentor ‘at risk’ teens from local high schools. A suggested group project was a garden, decorated by student led mosaics and so the seed was planted. A few years passed and a couple of lessons at a local mosaic supply outlet and I was on my way.

I mosaic surfaces for both utility and ascetics. I have often used second hand furniture as much of it is made of beautiful wood and it seems exciting to ‘up do’ an old item to new.  Sanding and oiling I take pleasure in restoring something that was once obsolete. I also create mirrors and trivets, outside shower backings and mosaic tabletops that are new. Recently I have begun using material that will withstand the elements so that art can be displayed in garden and in water spaces.

I am based in my home at Mount Coolum and I feel very fortunate that I am able to spend so much of my time creating in such a beautiful part of the world.

My studio is a corner of my living room and home surrounds. Some stages of the work will see me outside grouting or sanding furniture or sitting over a piece at a delegated table. Currently I work part time teaching and spend as much of my free time mosaicing because I love it. Some of my work is currently for sale in ‘Makersville’, an outlet shop for local artists in Montville. I am about to swap some mosaic techniques in exchange for yoga lessons and I am happy to discuss commission work according to colour, size, design and purpose.
