Stallholder profile Backstreet Energy

Stallholder profile today is for Backstreet Energy

Your name:  Nikki Dungar

Your business name website link: www.backstreetenergy.com.au

The suburb/town you live in now:
            Palm Cove, Cairns QLD

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?:
We make what we call ‘Power Bags’.  They are delicious blends of nuts, seeds and superfoods lightly toasted with organic coconut nectar & coconut oil.
I have always had a great interest in making wholesome, healthy foods that are based on the principle of eating real food, the way nature intended.
I’ve used my knowledge of researching nutrient dense whole food to created our unique blends for the ultimate healthy ‘grab-and-go’ snack food.

What inspired you to start your business?:
My business partner Deborah Storer approached me with the business idea.  We wanted to create an easy to eat, healthy snack food for busy people to help them feel energised and alive, (unlike many processed snack foods available)

How long have you been creating?:
We first had the idea about a year ago, and have recently starting selling our product.  We’ve had a great response from customers and retailers.

Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?:
Both Deborah and myself have other business. We manage Backstreet Energy as a part-time business.

Where do you sell your creations? :
We have a few local retailers around the Cairns area and south Queensland.  Recently we extended to the Northern Territory.  We sell at  local market including The Handmade Expo in Cairns.  Our Power Bags are also available to purchase on our website.

What makes you so special or different?:
Our product is quite unique the way it combines together.  It is not a muesli or granola, nor is it a bar or ball, but a combination of all of these things.  It’s also healthy AND delicious!

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?:
I love to hear how our customer enjoy our product.  Mums have told me their primary age children can’t  get enough of it when they refuse to any other healthy foods.

What is your favourite product to make?:
I enjoying  seeing the deep chocolate colours of the Choc-o-licious when we mix in the organic raw cacao powder and the aroma that comes from the over when toasting.

Do you teach classes or workshops?:

Yes, my business partner Deborah Storer teaches workshops on self-development and dancing class.

Cloudy cuddles business was formed on a love of sewing, and being able to share this passion with others through developing quality products that others can buy and receive. The joy I get when I see others receive these handmade clothes and accessories is priceless.

I grew up learning to sew from my mum who is a textiles and sewing teacher. Many a time I remember sitting down next to her at the sewing machine sewing, or at the table pinning and cutting out fabrics. The passion she has for sewing has been passed down to me. Just like her I one day hope to pass this on to the next generation of my family.

How long have you been ‘creating’?
Started in January 2016.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?
It is part time business.

Where do you sell your creations?
I sell them online at Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/shop/CloudyCuddles. Online through my facebook page and at The Handmade Expo Market. This is my first Market and if all goes well hoping to do some more.

What makes what you do special or different?
I use a wide range of styles and designs. Ones that are not seen elsewhere. The blankets can be used as a baby into childhood making them last longer and great for large families. I have special touches on my products. I have care labels on the back of products making it easy for washing. The cloudy cuddles logo is printed on the front. The bibs and burping cloths have a top stitch making them more durable. The bibs have extra long velcro making it adjustable for all babies and toddlers.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
The most rewaring part of what I do is being able see the look on the customer's face when they receive a product. I love being able to see the joy that it brings to others.

What is your favourite product that you make?
I love making the flannelette and minky blankets. There is so many different styles and colours. There are also ones with borders and squares as well which make them fun to make. There are a lot of bright colours in at the moment which I love to sew with.

Stallholder profile Wellingtons Wick

Our stall holder profile today is Wellingtons Wick

Your name:
Jessica Wellington
Your business name and facebook/website name and link:
Business Name: Wellingtons Wick Instagram: www.instagram.com/wellingtonswick
The suburb/town you live in now:
Cairns

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?:
I create hand poured and beautifully scented artisan jar candles, travel tin candles and melts. Candles are available in unique, classic, and traditional vessels in a wide variety of scents.
All of Wellingtons Wicks candles and melts use 100% eco soy wax and natural fragrance oils. Each candle is lovingly poured by hand and left to set for two weeks to ensure an even burn and strong throw of the scent.

I also provide a bespoke candle service in which custom orders can be made for a one off gift such as a birthday, anniversary, bridesmaid gift, or new baby. We also cater for large custom orders for events including wedding bomboniere and corporate functions.
What inspired you to start your business?:
Inspiration for starting this business grew from my long love affair with candles. I found that it was sometimes difficult to find candles in the scents I liked and wanted to make candles in unusual and beautiful fragrance blends that would accommodate different preferences, occasions, and seasons.

How long have you been creating?:
I have been making candles for around 3 months under a business, although have dabbled in it for quite a while before that as a hobby. Through conducting testing with temperatures, fragrances, and setting times, my candle recipe has resulted in candles that have a long, even burn, and wonderful strong scent throw.
Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?:
This is now a business that takes up full time hours (but it doesn't feel like work because I enjoy doing it so much).
Where do you sell your creations?
I sell these candles on facebook and instagram (accounts listed above) and currently ship Australia wide. I am also in the process of setting up an online etsy shop.

I will be attending various markets in Cairns including the Handmade Expo Markets (for the remainder of 2016), along with the Cairns Cruise Terminal Markets, Tanks Markets (limited; dates to be advised), and Cairns esplanade Markets.

A website is currently being developed and I can't wait to share it with everyone once it's up and running.
What makes you so special or different?:
What makes Wellingtons Wick so special is that I provide a bespoke candle service that accommodates special occasions and one off personalised gifts. With a background in graphic design, I can work closely with clients to ensure that their vision for the perfect candle and gift can be created.
What is the most rewarding part of what you do?:
The most rewarding part of what I do is hearing the positive feedback and seeing photos that I receive from customers telling me that they are enjoying their purchases.
What is your favourite product to make?:
I love making all of the wax products. From deciding on which vessels to use, right through to the labelling, it's all good! My favourite products to make would probably be the customised candles because I like being able to add a personalised touch to someones gift, and know that the candles have played a special part in someone's wedding, birthday, or other special occasion.

Stallholder profile Modern Mumsy

Todays stallholder profile belongs to Modern Mumsy
Your name:
Michelle Parsons
Your Business name: www.modernmumsy.com.au

The suburb/town you live:
Canungra

What is it that you make  and what skills do you use?
I make mummy and baby accessories - I design and sew taggie comforters, chewy bibs, bandana bibs, burp cloths, dummy saver straps. I also make beaded sensory necklaces, bracelets, and chew toys for adults, children and babies.

What inspired you to start your business?
My little girl Ruby. Soon after I had her, I found myself searching for cute handmade accessories but found it hard to find the perfect pieces, so I started designing and creating them.
I found it so refreshing to be creating again, rather than working 40-50 hours per week in the corporate world, I had never made time to be creative and do something I love. It's like I have balance in my life again, and it's such a good feeling.

How long have you been‘creating’?
3 years

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?
Part-time business - I have a 7 month old boy and a 3 year old girl, so they keep me on my toes the rest of the time!

Where do you sell your creations?
I have a website, facebook page and instagram to showcase my pieces online. I also sell at local markets and events - currently The Handmade Expo Ipswich &
 Mount Tamborine Markets.

What makes what you do special or different?
I create unique, functional and affordable pieces, so you can be sure you're purchasing something special for you or someone you love.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
Meeting other mums, dads, nannas and grandads, aunts and uncles, babies and kids! I love learning about other people's journey into parenthood.

What is your favourite product that you make?
Taggie comforters with saver strap - one side has cute printed cotton fabric for your baby to see, the other side has minky fabric for snuggling, the tags stimulate your babies sense of touch and help develop their fine motor skills, and the strap is for convenience - you can attach a teething toy, dummy or you can attach it to the seatbelt of a pram or car seat (no more dropping on the floor!). A perfect gift for the mum and baby that has everything.

Do you teach classes or workshops?
No, but maybe one day I will
