What is it that you make and what skills do you use?: I make greeting cards in singles and sets, often with handmade envelopes to match, I also make decorated journals and paper decor items. I can make cards to order for special occasions. I also run regular classes and teach card making.

What inspired you to start your business?: I make more cards then I need so selling them is a good way to challenge my creativity to make a bigger variety.

How long have you been creating?: - all my life!! but in this are about 10 years

Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?: It's a part time business and I work in operating Theatres the rest of the time but I would love to make it full time!

Where do you sell your creations?: The Handmade Expo Markets, I sell my cards at the Hospital where I work and through private orders from Facebook and word of mouth. I am also on several design teams for Card making and reach an audience  online

What makes you so special or different?: I rarely make the same design more than a few times so each card is unique. I only do identical cards for sets.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?: I know that every person who receives a handmade card in the post or in person is touched by the effort that went into giving it. We are all so bombarded with electronic communications that something real is so nice to hold.

What is your favourite product to make?: Wedding cards!! or Anniversary cards,, maybe baby cards and definitely birthday pop up or interactive cards. Actually I like them all

Do you teach classes or workshops?: yes  at least every month and I will arrange a private class based on what you would like to make. You just need to arrange 4-6 guests and I'll bring everything they need to create 4 cards.

I also have a wedding or invitation advisory service where I can help you design and create your own invitations.

What inspired you to start your business?: I have been a Scrapbooker and worked in the Card & Gift Industry for 15 years

How long have you been creating?: Seriously, since Retiring 3 years ago. Before that about 20 years!

Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?: Supposed to be a Hobby!

Where do you sell your creations? Online/markets etc..of course you must include The Handmade Expo LOL?: The Arcade Market, and THE of course!

What makes you so special or different?: I work with Customers, advising and suggesting layouts and I don’t charge for my time in setting photos up.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?: Seeing the pleasure in my Customers that my work creates.

What is your favourite product to make?: A tough one! Probably the Tile Mural at the moment.

Do you teach classes or workshops?: Not on a regular basis, but I have had people over to my House to train. I would be interested in knowledge sharing.

What inspired you to start your business?: We decided to open our store because of the lack of choice and affordability of fabric & notions, we offer these items at a price I am happy to pay in any other store.

How long have you been creating?: I have been creating craft since the age of 8ish, I love all forms of craft and have various items on the go at any one time. 


What is the most rewarding part of what you do?: My most memorable items I have created along the way are my daughters layette, my wedding dress, my grand-daughter’s Christening Gown, Layette’s for my niece’s & nephews.

What inspired you to start your business? Before starting this business I was working in the childcare industry as an assistant and  I love working with children. I saw this business advertised not long after having my little girls impressions and decided it would be a great opportunity and took it on.

How long have you been creating?  I have been running this business since September 2014 so 2 years.

Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?  It is a part time business hobby for the time being.

Where do you sell your creations? online/markets: I advertise my products and services through Facebook  selling/buying sites and by attending markets such as The Handmade Expo, Mumma's Nest Markets and Birth & Baby Expo in Gladstone.

What makes you so special or different?: I am able to capture and preserve a lifetime memory for families of their babies and children.

What is your favourite product to make?: Seeing the thankful look on the mother's faces when they come to collect their frame.

What is it that you make and what skills do you use? Facial & Body Scrubs, Bath Bombs & Soaps. I have done a lot of research & testing no animals just friends & family. What i make is not new body scrubs and bath bombs have been around for years but you need to put your own spin on a product to make it unique and our is our very bright colours, our own mixed blends of scents and our quirky names. Creativity & inspiration comes from within you breath & live it everyday and sometimes drives you crazy. So many ideas so little time.

What inspired you to start your business? I started making Body Scrubs as gifts about 9 years ago and many friends & family said i should sell them but the timing was never right till about 3 years ago. So happy I quit by job and now live a life creating & experimenting. Which also gives me flexibility to spend time with my granddaughter and teach her all about crafts.

How long have you been ‘creating’? I started at a very young age. My grandmother taught me to crochet and it has just grown from there. I paint a little, bake, sew and have a wonderful business making decadent intoxicating body care products.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business? Full time Hobby that gives me an income.

Where do you sell your creations?: We sell at Online, Etsy & Markets all over the Gold Coast & Brisbane, lucky my husband and i love road trips, turn on our sounds & off we go. 

What makes you different?: What makes us different is our bright colours and great names. Beach Bum, Booty Lushcious, Sex on the Beach always gets a giggle and many more.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do? Well three things firstly the customers and their positive comments, loyalty & support. Secondly when you set up your stall and you stand back and look at all your creations and think wow I made them all and thirdly counting the empty boxes at the end of the day is a bonus.

What is your favourite product that you make? Oh that's hard i like making them all because the process for each is so different and so rewarding. I cant make or sell anything I don't love that would just be all wrong.

Do you teach classes or workshops? I don't teach classes and its not something that interest me at this time.

What inspired you to start your business?: As a mum to two children under three, I struggled to find employment when I wanted to return to work. I've always been passionate about art and painting is something I've always dabbled in. I thought now was the perfect opportunity to start my own business as an artist and sell some of my pieces.

How long have you been creating?: 6 months

Where do you sell your creations?: The Handmade Expo, Etsy, EBay and Facebook

What makes you so special or different?: I specialise in hand crafted water colour home decor paintings that are affordable and unique. Each item is painted with love and no two pieces are the same. I welcome all commissions.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?: Water colour can be very unpredictable and I love seeing what journey each painting takes me on.

What is your favourite product to make?: I love painting personalised pieces for children's bedrooms

The Start of a New Year of Markets

The Christmas school holidays are traditionally the 'down time' period for markets and they give stallholders the chance to recharge their batteries with family and friends, take those long awaited trips away, read that book they've been wanting to read for some time, design some new products or they give them a chance to sort out their creative spaces ready for the new year. This time off is important as quite often many stallholders have 'normal' 9 to 5 jobs during the week and then do their 'other' job on weekends and weeknights.

However, many of us creatives never seem to fully put away our work. Sound familiar? If any are like me they like to get a 'head start' on stock for the year or the idea of stepping away from our sewing tables, craft tables, work sheds or gardens puts us in a cold sweat! My sewing machine is almost an addiction for me LOL and I love to spend my holiday time (because there's no need to do school drop offs/pickups or get out of my pj's) watching Netflix while I happily sew some divine new animal.....


The school holidays also give our fabulous coordinating team the much needed time to revisit the year, look at what worked and what didn't work, and devise some plans for the coming years' markets and work out what goals they have for making their venues as successful as they can be.


The new year of markets are about to begin and our first markets for the year will be in Ipswich on Saturday February 18th and then the following Saturday the 25th in Rockhampton. So if you've missed getting your handmade, homegrown or handbaked fix then we look forward to seeing you there!
