What is it that you make and what skills do you use? 

I make children's clothes and baby blankets. I am a sewer and love patchworking and all things stitching.

What inspired you to start your business? 

I have been making baby blankets for all of my friends as they have children, and as those babies became toddlers, I started making them clothes. I would bring them to work to show off and gift them to their owners and found I was receiving orders "Can I buy one just like that for my daughter?" and I decided I could make my hobby earn me money instead of costing me money!

How long have you been ‘creating’? 

I made my first skirt 10 years ago, but only bought my own sewing machine 2 years ago, and became addicted from there.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business? 

part time hobby business :-) - A hobby that I hope will earn me some extra money.

Where do you sell your creations? 

I am only just starting my little business with facebook and the Ipswich Handmade Expo, but also hoping to do some extra markets next year.

What makes what you do special or different? 

All of my items are handmade with love, and lots and lots of pom-poms - who doesn't love pom-poms!!

What is the most rewarding part of what you do? 

Seeing the items being loved. Every time my friend's 2 year old son puts on one of the pairs of shorts I have given him, he walks around saying 'Lisa, Lisa' to his mum and dad. 

What is your favourite product that you make? 

All of them, I love the little boys sets and I love the dresses with pom poms! I can't choose!!

I have been making headpieces for friend's weddings (flowergirls and bridesmaids) for years and finally felt like the right time to make a small business out of it!

Seeing photographs of little one's at their first birthday wearing my crowns!

What is it that you make and what skills do you use? 

I combine science and art to explore Australian nature through stories, paintings and drawings. I’ve recently used these skills to create the first colouring book for adults, which is the only one currently available that’s based entirely on a wild Australian woodland. I also sell greeting cards, postcards and prints of my artwork, and these are linked to stories on my blog describing the inspiration behind each artwork and sometimes detailing how they were created.

What inspired you to start your business? 

I’ve always been inspired by nature, and love sharing its beauty and fascinating details with others.

How long have you been ‘creating’? 

All of my life, in one form or another.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business? 

It’s part time at the moment, perhaps evolving into full time soon.

Where do you sell your creations? 

Via my online shop at www.paperbarkwriter.com and at The Handmade Expo in Morayfield  . My colouring book and some greeting cards are also available at the State Library Shop at Southbank and Binna Burra Lodge in Lamington National Park. What makes what you do special or different? 

I’m an ecologist, but also a writer and artist. I’ve also spent many years working in the field of wildlife conservation. So this means I can combine my knowledge of many different plants, animals and ecosystems with my artistic side to create unique images and products, with fascinating stories behind them.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do? 

When people recognise the plants or animals in my stories or art, or are excited by new things they didn’t know before.

What is your favourite product that you make? 

I love all of them!

Do you teach classes or workshops? 

I’m planning some workshops for next year, which will probably be held at Binna Burra Lodge.

This weekend Forest Hill and Toowoomba

We have never done 2 markets on one weekend in close proximity to each other, but here goes!

Our annual Forest Hill Boutique Christmas market has turned into a great big boutique for the area with over 65 stalls,  way up on last year.  We think this shows the popularity of handmade and the need to be able to purchase beautiful  handmade gifts in the area.
We have Devonshire Teas in the supper room of the heritage listed hall as well as a couple of other food options on ground.
Next year we will be having 2 markets at Forest Hill, one on June 11th and the other on November 26th..so stay tuned !

On Sunday we have our 2nd Handmade and Vintage market in Toowoomba at USQ Clive Berghofer Centre in Baker St.
Its  an all indoor market and is even bigger than our first market.  We have over 130 stalls of handmade and/or vintage.  We usually hesitate to say there is something for everyone, but in this case we  are pretty confident this would be true.

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?

Handmade beaded tassel jewellery. Every piece is hand beaded and every tassel is hand wound.

What inspired you to start your business?

The desire to build a life doing what we enjoy while being self-supportive. We enjoy traveling and this allows us to do so.

Where do you sell your creations? 

The Handmade expo Market in Ipswich, Our online store is currently down while we are traveling in Australia however, we are lined up to attend several more markets in the area including Surfer's Paradise beach front markets weekly.

What makes what you do special or different?

The fact that we hand make our tassels, most jewellery brand used pre-fabricated tassels that they simply attach to their Jewellery. We also have unique patterns combining raw wood beads with semi-precious gemstones.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?

Making a living off doing something we enjoy. Getting the opportunity to be creative and have fun every day.

What is your favourite product that you make?

Our 'crazy Mexican lace agate" beaded jewellery is super unique. This specific gemstone has so much character with different swirls and patterns on each bead.
