NEW HERVEY BAY STALLHOLDER PROFILE FOR CREATED BY KAT

Stallholder Profile for Created By Kat

Your name: Kathy Cobb

Your business name: Created By Kat
Facebook/website name and link: https://www.createdbykat.com
Facebook:
The suburb/town you live in now: Urraween
What is it that you make and what skills do you use?: I design and make women?s clothing, accessories and bags. This uses my pattern making and sewing skills, and brings into play my design and colour/ texture matching abilities. For accessories jewellery making and beading skills are used. I paint and draw which uses my sketching and brush skills. I have been learning art techniques and creating for many years. I also am a qualified photographer, so my knowledge of lighting techniques and composition are used to create striking images. The editing process brings my photoshop skills into use.

What inspired you to start your business?: I always wanted to design clothing. It was my dream since my teenage years. My parents couldn?t afford to send me to design school, and encouraged me to choose an easier career path- so I had to choose something else. It has taken me almost 30years to be in a position to come back to it and be able to afford to set my business up. I am so happy to be finally chasing my dream!
How long have you been creating?: As Created By Kat I have been creating for about 6months. But I have been constantly creating things my whole life. Anything creative interests me and if I can?t create I get a bit stir crazy.
Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?: It is a business, at the moment it is part time, but I am hoping when it picks up it will be full time.

Where do you sell your creations?: I sell online, via my website, I also have a Facebook and Instagram page. I do have an Etsy page but I haven?t posted products there for a fair while. I focus on my website most. I sell at The handmade expo and I will be selling at Handmade Hervey Bay too.
What makes you so special or different?:The clothing I make is all my own designs. I make the patterns myself. I try to create pieces that are practical to wear and comfortable, but also beautiful. I like to use fabrics that are premium quality and with striking and unusual prints.
What is the most rewarding part of what you do?: Seeing the finished product on someone. Bringing the picture in my head into reality is very satisfying.
What is your favourite product to make?: I love making original one off pieces, but bags especially as I can be a little more ?out there? with bag designs.

Do you teach classes or workshops?: Not currently, but have thought about doing some! Have taught a few people how to use an SLR camera and the basics on light and composition, might be nice to get paid to do that lol!
