What is it that you make and what skills do you use?: I make pottery items, mainly wheel thrown, and altering some to make a more interesting piece.  I make both functional as well as decorative pottery.

What inspired you to start your business?: Looking for an interesting hobby on retirement I learnt pottery and then needed an avenue to sell it so I can make more.

Where do you sell your creations?: Etsy shop (on line), local exhibitions, home sales,The Handmade Expo

What makes you so special or different?: I specialise in crystalline glazing, which few potters tackle due to its challenges. It is labor intensive and more expensive. The results are worth it in the long run.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?: That’s easy - opening the kiln and having others appreciate your work.

What is your favourite product to make?: Sculptural pieces that are unique and let the form develop as you go.

Do you teach classes or workshops?: At our local pottery club “Bowen Potters Group” I help out every Wednesday. Anybody who wants to learn can come along. We are well equipped and have clay, etc, for sale. We are at 18 Beach Ave Queens Beach from 9am to 12md.

What is it that you make?: Limited edition bronze wildlife sculptures.

What inspired you to start your business?: A love of sculpture and wildlife.

How long have you been creating?: Bronze – 5ys  Art – a lifetime

Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?: I stepped out and made this my full time Business 4 years ago. Life is too short to not follow your dreams.

Where do you sell your creations?: I sell from my website, galleries and I will be showing work for the first time at the Hervey Bay Handmade Expo in August.

What makes you so special or different?: Bronze isn’t a widely used medium for artist due to the labour intensive process and cost, but it has such amazing qualities, its beautiful, timeless, has a small footprint and generally will last forever. To own a piece of art in a medium that was so instrumental in shaping human history including art is very special.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?: Boy you may wish you never asked this question lol. For me the reward is maintaining an emotional connection - The more plugged in we are the greater the disconnect from the natural world becomes and sadly to the detriment of the planet. We’re witnessing great loss of habitat for our wildlife and the decline of many species, some are on the brink of extinction. If I can help people connect with nature, that’s not only good for them but its great news for the planet and its wildlife.

What is your favourite product to make?: I just LOVE Australian wildlife, but if I was asked a favourite - it would have to be frogs. I have quite a soft spot for these little amphibians and they are a subject I really enjoy sculpting.


Do you teach classes or workshops?: Yes and I hope to do more in the future.

• What is it that you make and what skills do you use? I create handmade cards and giftware using my printmaking skills. I use various printmaking techniques ranging from linocuts, mixed media and eco dyes.

• What inspired you to start your business? I wanted to be creating on a regular basis and make a living from what I do best.

• How long have you been ‘creating’? I have been a practicing artist for over 35 years.

• Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?  InkDelectables is a new business I started at the beginning of 2017, it is in the early stages.

• Where do you sell your creations? Online/markets etc.. What makes what you do special or different?  I have just begun to sell my work at markets since the beginning of the year. I have some work in shops on consignment and am in the process of creating a website. My cards are made from mono prints (one of a kind) and lino cuts printed on Japanese paper and then glued to acid free card. They are like mini fine art works at a very affordable price. They are of archival quality and can be framed. Each card is handmade and unique.

• What is the most rewarding part of what you do?  Creating quality work using the skills of my trade.

• What is your favourite product that you make? My favourite product that I make would have to be the mono prints where I print real leaves that I have specifically selected.

Samantha: Sewing is my passion, and seeing the enjoyment children get from receiving one of my pieces is worth every moment spent creating it.

Paula: - I made a few teething rings and rattles for friends and from there the feedback I got a wanted to share my creations with others.

What inspired you to start your business? I have been in love with dream catchers my whole life. I always wanted a GIANT dream catcher but could never find one in store. So I thought I'd make one for myself and things went from there..How long have you been ‘creating’? For about 6 months.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business? Dream catchers are just a hobby, I work full time as an Engineer with the Council.

Where do you sell your creations?:I sell online and have recently started markets.

What makes what you do special or different? Creating is different to my everyday job, I love playing with beautiful colours and seeing what magical creations I can produce.

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?: Creating Babies and Children's Clothing. My skills are pattern making, sewing both hand and machine, making embellishments such as ribbon/fabric flowers and bows to adorn my creations, machine embroidery, applique and hand smocking.

What inspired you to start your business?: When my girls no longer wanted too wear my creations l stopped making children's clothes but l felt very lost even after trying other hobbies. With the birth of my grandchildren l suddenly had a purpose.........and Nutty Koala was born.

How long have you been creating?: I began sewing at the age of 10 making dolls clothes, therefore it would be 50 years of creating.

Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?: Part time but l would love it too be full time.

What makes you so special or different?: Most of my creations are one of a kind and are all my own designs, and my embellishments, bias tapes and any piping are all made by me.

How long have you been creating?: I've been crocheting since I was about 7 but Miss Tiff Crochet is 3 1/2 years old

What makes you so special or different?: I primarily use recycled t-shirt yarn (Hooked Zpagetti) and other natural fibres.  Most of my items are both cute and practical

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?: Making an end product that is usable and having people say they like my products

What is your favourite product to make?:  Don't think I could go past my crocheted bowls. So many uses!!  Although I now also have an addiction to clutch purses!

The suburb/town you live in now: I live in Ipswich, but have been living up in Central Queensland for a while.

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?: I make hand knitted items. I learnt to knit over 50 years ago, and am still learning new techniques! My mother taught me to knit, and as she was left handed, I learnt to knit left handed. I never knew any different, until I was around 20 and someone mentioned I was knitting wrong! I couldn’t understand what she was saying, but eventually we established that I was knitting left handed! I never knew any different!

It actually made sense, as whenever I followed the instructions to knit the ‘Right front’, I end up knitting the ‘Left front’, and I couldn’t figure out why! I’m basically knitting a ‘mirror image’ of the pattern.

Graphs are great, as they are easy to follow.

What inspired you to start your business?: My family and friends have always said that I should sell my items, so I thought I’d just give it a go. I tend to like challenges so I’ll make something once or twice, then mess around with the pattern a bit, and them move on to something else. So I only usually make one or two of the same thing. So they are ‘Exclusive’ creations!

How long have you been creating?: I learnt to knit over 50 years ago

Is it a full time/part time hobby or business?: It's a hobby

Where do you sell your creations?: I will start off at The Handmade Expo, and see how that goes, and then online.

What makes you so special or different?: I enjoy knitting because there’s always a challenge - sorting the pattern out, changing the stitches, yarn, colour. Plus you get something usable at the end of it. I only usually make one or two of the same thing. So they are ‘Exclusive’ creations! 

I have plans for summer knits as well. There are some lovely cotton & linen yarns out there.

Do you teach classes or workshops?: As a Left hander, I would love to give lessons. I have also taught right handed people to knit.
