What is it that you make and what skills do you use? 

I make Glittered up Household items and barware. I mainly supply drinking glasses in the form of Wine and Flutes. I also make custom made items as well as personalised items. Anything from Glittered Covered Champagne or Wine Bottles. Or Personalised wine glasses.

What inspired you to start your business? 

I had a friend request if I could make one as I am a creative person said it seemed easy enough. I tried it and since then more and more friends ordered which made me start up a Facebook page to gain interest and see if anyone else would like these beautiful glittered up things.

How long have you been ‘creating’? 

Publicly only 3 weeks, but privately maybe a month and a half. 

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business? 

Its a hobby at the moment, that I am hoping to turn into a business. 

Where do you sell your creations?  

I sell through Friends and my Facebook Page. The Handmade Expo will be my first Market which I am excited about. 

What makes what you do special or different?

 My glasses I find are more Sparkly that others I have seen. I also offer Personalised items which I know I am one of very few that do. I am also willing to try anything and love to be challenged with what I can make and create. 

What is the most rewarding part of what you do? 

Seeing the sparkly happy faces when they get there Gorgeous Glitter Glass.

What is your favourite product that you make? 

I love making all my products but the made to orders are my favourite as they always get that little bit harder, little bit more creative. 

Do you teach classes or workshops?

 No I don’t but we will what the future brings.

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?

I create Original OOAK fantasy mixed media sculpted art dolls. My skills used are drawing, painting, sculpting sewing, embroidery,woodwork carving and wig making.

What inspired you to start your business? 

I have always made dolls and have always loved the realm of the fae and decided to turn my love into a business when my children were still at home and I was looking for an "occupation"

How long have you been ‘creating’? 

I have been creating all my life. since I was a small child when my Mother taught me to sew and I could pick up a pencil and draw designs for my dolls clothing.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?

I basically create all the time in between family commitments.

Where do you sell your creations? 

I sell online at www.catchacreation.com.au/kottonvalleydolls, thru my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Raggedydreaming?ref=hl and at the Ipswich Handmade Expo. I'm currently setting up a store at www.Hand-Made.com

What makes what you do special or different? 

My dolls are OOAK original designs sculpted from scratch without molds, all clothing is custom made to fit the doll without patterns. They are mainly fantasy characters like fairies witches elves and pixies and also caricatures or look a likes.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?

I find great joy in turning a heap of fabrics and clay into a little fantasy character just from an idea I have in my mind and knowing that I created it. I also love seeing the relations I get from people when they see my creations.

What is your favourite product that you make?

I would have to say that my favourites are the Faeries but I do love every character I make.

Do you teach classes or workshops?

That is something I am thinking about in the future, as I feel that everyone should have the opportunity to learn something new and there is not much available in the way of doll making classes in the Ipswich area

What is it that you make and what skills do you use? 

I make clothes for children and women and household accessories. I use both machine and hand sewing to create sweet and different styles

What inspired you to start your business? 

I have loved sewing since I was little, when my little girl came along I used my talents to make her cute retro styled clothing, Family and friends encouraged me to sell my clothing and a few months ago I searched high and low for a white blouse with no luck. That's when I decided that their must be more mothers like me who wanted clothes like this for their daughters 

How long have you been ‘creating’? 

My Grandmother taught me to sew when I was just 5, I began to create my own clothing and designs when I was n my teens

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business? 

At the moment it is a full time hobby but I'm hoping to turn it into a full time business

Where do you sell your creations?  

So far I've only made  clothes for friends, family and people who were recommended by family. The Handmade Expo will be my first market, My friend tells me that your market is the best place for handmade items and a great place to start

What makes what you do special or different? 

My partner and I are into the rockabilly scene and my daughter wants to be a part of it as well but I found that what's available is often not right or looks more like a costume than clothes I also found that there wasn't a lot of traditional styles and colours available for women's clothes which was what I was looking for 

What is the most rewarding part of what you do? 

I love seeing the pieces come together working hard to create something beautiful, something that makes people smile and feel great. Mostly I love when people love what I have made them

What is your favourite product that you make? 

That's a tough one I love a little dress that I make that I call the Sunday Best Dress. I've recently revamped it a little and I just think its beautiful. I also love my owl doorstops, everyone seems to have their own little personality, They make me smile.

My Name is Sarah Anne Lightowler-Ward and I am the owner and 'make & doer' at Sweet Chilli Onions. so named after my favourite sandwich filling hummmm yummy!

I am from the UK and started my business there in a little town called Tadcaster in North Yorkshire in 2012. I moved to Australia in November last year with my husband to experience 'something new' and

 currently I live in Forest Lake, South Brisbane. 

I make a variety of items, predominantly children's soft toys but  I love crafting and also do hand drawn, sewn & painted cards, cushions, bunting (both card and fabric), toy bags and play mats. 

I learnt to sew at secondary school and have always love drawing and crafting but it's always been a bit of a hobby. I studied hard at university and (somehow) became a construction project manager (which I love). But it was whilst doing a job which involved me travelling a lot which resulted in me becoming poorly and having to take some time off that I really thought about doing something less stressful. so I created Sweet Chilli Onions.    

I needed to focus on something that I thoroughly enjoyed and I'd always made birthday and Christmas cards, cushions and gifts for family and friends, so I started to craft other things too, and eventually I was attending craft fairs and selling via Facebook and Etsy. 

When I moved to Australia I really struggled with missing my family and friends, so I started crafting again and really got into making soft toys and dolls.  It is still a hobby as I work in the shop fitting industry over here but my aim is to eventually make a real go of my business and hopefully have a life full of loveliness and crafting every day!

I currently sell my products via my Facebook page, Etsy shop and of course The Handmade Expo! I make one offs and make anything to order! I also make from set patterns plus my own, for example my floor cushion softies are all my own patterns.  

The most rewarding part of being a crafter is the appreciation from your customers, wether they are a 3 year old girl of a 50 year old man buying cushions for his wife.  I love knowing that they enjoy something that I myself have thoroughly enjoyed making!

My favourite product has got to me my traditional squeaky deakie! My little sister had one when we were young and we had no idea where it went, so I made her one. its a product that has a lot of fun memories tied to it and it's such a simple toy!

 My business is special to me as all my items are designed and created by me. I also try to source a large variety of fabrics to make my items unique.

Seeing kids faces when they find something they love.

My favourite  products would have to be my kids backpacks or my cot sheet sets.

What inspired you to start your business? I started making clothes for my friends children as gifts. Then I starting getting orders to make clothes for them.

What makes what you do special or different? I try to keep my creations unique and I source good quality materials that are a little different. I am also creating my own pattern for boys shorts which will be released soon .

What is the most rewarding part of what you do? Seeing little girls/boys wearing my creations around the shops, to the markets etc

What is your favourite product that you make? My razorback dresses and the ruffle top shorts. They are very popular items.

I am a woodturner and I also decorate and carve Gourds as well as crocheting toys.

How long have you been ‘creating’?

I have been turning wood for thirty years as a hobby.

I sell my creations at the wood and craft shows at Claremont, The E Shed at Fremantle, Creative Crafts at Rockingham, through the W.A.Woodturners Assoc. and The Handmade Expo Market.

What makes what you do special or different?

Maybe because I`m a woman  or my love of plants that makes my turning a little different from  the norm.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?

I find it very rewarding to make something beautiful from something that would be considered as firewood.

What is your favourite product that you make?

My favourite products are arrangements of mushrooms and flowers from west Australian native wood.

Do you teach classes or workshops?

I have been a member of the W.A.Woodturners Assoc for thirty years and we have classes, workshops  and demonstrators . Often we will bring in a demonstrator from overseas.

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?

I make Steampunk Jewellery, I pull apart old clocks and old jewellery, and along with some found objects mainly make earrings and pendants but also small sculptures. 

I also have a range of wind chimes and light shade/chandelliers (all plastics) made out of bowls, colanders, cutlery and anything I can find at the op shops or roadside treasures.

What inspired you to start your business?

I have always made things and now this gives me an excuse to collect stuff and just create.

How long have you been ‘creating’?

All my life in one form or another, I am also a fibre artist & quilter and teacher in these 2 fields.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?

It is part time as a business, but full time creating and collecting stuff.

Where do you sell your creations? 

I am still in the throws of setting up a full internet presence but also jumping on the market circuit and really looking forward to being part of The Handmade Expo in Rockingham.

What makes what you do special or different?

What I make are one off unique jewellery art pieces that you won't find mass produced.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?

I love when I get an old clock to pull apart and seeing what wonderful pieces are inside when I get the back off.

What is your favourite product that you make?

I can't pick one as whatever piece I'm working on at the time, is my favorite.

Do you teach classes or workshops?

Yes, I teach Fibre Art classes and Quilt classes but not the jewellery side of things.

What inspired you to start your business? 

I wanted to create and make products for people to love and enjoy as much as I do. 

How long have you been ‘creating’? 

I have been creative for as long as I can remember I remember when I was little always rummaging in mum's fabrics and button stash. 

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business? 

Hobby Business but would love for it to become part or full time in the furture. 

Where do you sell your creations? 

I have a facebook page and a made it store as well as participating in local markets. I will be at the Handmade Expo Market on Sunday 10th August.

What makes what you do special or different?  

I have my own unique style and it is reflected by what I am interested in at the moment so for example my more recent work has reflected more of a vintage style but it is ever changing and evolving. I also very much love inspirational quotes and sayings so that too is starting to come through in my more recent pieces. 

What is the most rewarding part of what you do? 

The feedback when a customer tells me they love their purchase that is the most satisfying part that I have made something that is meaningful and loved by the person that makes it all worthwhile.

What is your favourite product that you make? 

It's hard to choose just one but at the moment I am loving upcycling and repurposing have some new and unique products made from books coming up so stay tuned.... 

Do you teach classes or workshops? 

I do teach workshops, in the past I have held Scrabble Tile Art workshops and in the future I am hoping to start holding more regular workshops from card making to fabric projects which I am excited about.
