Stallholder Profile Ruby Roo Crafts

Stallholder Profile is Barbara from Ruby Roo

Name:   Barbara Smith

Business name:  Kaszazz at ruby-roo

Suburb/town :   Warnbro WA

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?
Card making, scrapbooking, papercrafts, using fabulous Kaszazz papercrafting products which I sell as an independent consultant.  I am also a complete Christmas addict and make festive goodies including stockings and cushions, reindeer food and pots of snow!

What inspired you to start your business?
A love of making things and meeting like-minded people.

How long have you been ‘creating’?
From when I was first allowed to use scissors at a very young age.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?
Part time hobby business.

Where do you sell your creations?
Online and at markets etc, and soon at The Handmade Expo, lol.  Obviously I am booked in for all 5 markets at Rockingham.  I also attend local fairs, mainly around Christmas time.  I run workshops from home and sell my Kaszazz products through those as well.  I have a regularly updated Facebook page, where you can get my news and see some of the things I've been making.

What makes what you do special or different?
Apart from my ambition to make everybody love Christmas as much as me, my commitment is to provide high quality goods at competitive prices, and make sure my workshops give people the chance to have a go at something new without needing to lay out huge amounts of money.  I also encourage the use of glitter, lots of glitter, a bit of sparkle is wonderful.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
Seeing absolute beginners, or people who are a little afraid of trying something new, make something absolutely beautiful that they are proud of.

What is your favourite product that you make?
Christmas cards, followed closely by all other kinds of cards!!

Do you teach classes or workshops?
I hold small group workshops which means everyone gets to have a go at everything, and there's plenty of time for chat and questions.  My Kaszazz workshops are very informal but structured, and the results are fantastic - even beginners will produce something wonderful.  I also hold regular Playtime sessions where people can just come and try different techniques, or make a scrapbook page or some cards for occasions they have coming up, which means it suits everybody.  I'm happy to run demonstrations or make and take sessions at people's homes, or for larger groups in an appropriate venue.  I just enjoy spreading the creative love!!

Stallholder Profile Lollicakes

Stallholder profile....Clarissa from Lollicakes

Business name: Lollicakes
Suburb/town: Como WA
What is it that you make and what skills do you use?:
I make Gourmet Cake Pops (fresh crumbed cake mixed with frosting, rolled into balls and dipped in chocolate - all on a lollipop stick). I use art, creative, cake decoration, baking skills.
What inspired you to start your business?:
I taught myself how to bake and have been baking all kinds of goodies since 2008. Through all that, I discovered I really enjoyed creating beautiful and delicious cakes for my loved ones. In 2013, I decided to make Cake Pops for an Easter event, I made egg-shaped cake pops and decorated them like little easter eggs. From there, I found a real passion to make gourmet luxurious Cake Pops - and so after a few months of paperwork, designing my website, logo and getting council approvals, I officially opened my Cake Pop business in 2014.

How long have you been ‘creating’?:
Officially since 2014, unofficially since 2008.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?
Part-time business as I still work full-time as a cancer researcher at the University of WA.

Where do you sell your creations? Online/markets etc..
Polkadot Vintage 3in1 Market, PerthUpmarket, The Handmade Expo, Leederville Farmer's Market, online via website and facebook business page.
What makes what you do special or different?
What makes my business special is that I provide elegant, luxurious cake on a stick which is unique, and affordable. I make one-of-a-kind custom creations and all my designs are 100% original and handmade. I ensure I also use only the best gourmet ingredients so that with each custom order, I guarantee full satisfaction. I also specialise in coming up with amazing flavour combos: like recently, a new one I came up with is lemon-thyme cake pops, and Maltesers cake pop with salted caramel buttercream which sold very well as my last fair.
What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
Seeing how happy it makes people when they order from me and knowing I have made someone's life happier with my cake pops. I also have been told by many people that Cake Pops are one of the hardest thing to master, so I feel very rewarded that I can master in making Cake Pops.
What is your favourite product that you make?
I love coming up with new flavour combos, so my favourite product is my Cake Pops.
Do you teach classes or workshops?
I have my first fundraising class coming up in June/July.

Stallholder Profile
Samantha from Handmade by Sam
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Handmade-by-Sam/206327146107969

Name: Samantha Cust

Business name: Handmade by Sam

Suburb/town Bertram, Perth

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?
Bespoke cakes/cupcakes and cookies for EVERY occasion

What inspired you to start your business?
I have a very creative streak and love giving Handmade items as gifts. I took a few cake decorating classes just to start out as a hobby and some time out 'just for me' and became totally addicted! I already work from home running a family day care, so to start another home based business was a totally logical thing to do :)
How long have you been ‘creating’?
I have been creating all my life, but my business has been registered since 2013

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?
Currently a part-time business along with my other business, but it is slowly taking over

Where do you sell your creations? Online/markets etc..
Facebook/word of mouth, local markets in Rockingham/Secret Harbour (run by Street Hassle Events) as well as The Handmade Expo

What makes what you do special or different?
There are many cake decorators out there, but I bet you have never seen one with a red mowhawk and tattoos! I am not your run of the mill decorator (I certainly stand out in a crowd) LOL

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
Seeing the faces of the people who receive my cakes - it doesnt matter how many hours the cake took to complete or how many late nights you had to do, just seeing the joy on a person's face when they receive their cake made especially for them makes it all worth it

What is your favourite product that you make?
I enjoy birthday cakes, each one is so very different, my clients certainly think 'outside of the box' when they order their cakes from me - each cake is definitely a challenge

Do you teach classes or workshops?
yes, I teach, cupcake/cake decorating classes (in groups and also one-on-one sessions)
